Secret Records releases a double CD of live and studio archive recordings spanning their fruitful decade of the 1970s - from the avant-garde rock band, the individual members and the groups formed from them.

At the time of Amazing Blondel’s success during the early 1970s, popular music was still very much evolving. It was common place for bands to incorporate numerous elements from a myriad of past and present genres in an attempt to find their own voice and sound… cue Amazing Blondel. Although Amazing Blondel was not as successful as their avant-garde, folk counterparts such as Pentangle, Jethro Tull and The Incredible String Band, they still managed to capture a distinctly unique style. From their committed studio endeavours, managing more than 20 vintage and modern instruments between the talented trio, through to their passion for Renaissance music and psychedelia; Amazing Blondel are the only band that can do Amazing Blondel’s style.

The band was signed to Island Records by founder Chris Blackwell, allowing them to pursue 4 albums of baroque inspired pop-rock. The success brought on by albums such as Evensong and Fantasia Lindum abled the band to tour with other contemporaries such as Genesis and Procol Harum. However just before the 4th album on Island Records, Blondel, main song-writer and founding member John Gladwin left the group with Eddie Baird and Terry Wincott continuing.

‘Songs For Faithful Admirers’
aims to fill in the blank spaces left by the group and the respective members with clear cut demos, radio performances and remarkable live performances. A number of John Gladwin’s group and solo performances both during and post Amazing Blondel (some with latter band Englishe Musicke) are featured alongside performances from the Baird/Wincott incarnation and their own solo groups. Also featured is a song from Gladwin and Wincott’s previous ‘60’s band ‘Gospel Garden’, a choral rehearsal of ‘Swifts and Swains and Leafy Lanes’ from Fantasia Lindum and extended sleeve notes from all three band members. This collection is aimed at the die-hard fans, experimental music lovers and to anyone with a curiosity into the British, 1970s progressive scene and the limitless possibilities that it held.

Release date: 1st July 2013
